Europeans Patients Forum (EHLTF), “150 million reasons to act” Patients’ Manifesto for the new European Parliament and Commission 2009

The European Patients Forum (EPF) unites patient associations from throughout the European Union and gives a voice to the 150 millions patients that it represents. EPF is striving for high quality, equitable, patient-centred healthcare for all patients throughout the European Union. It has become a respected interlocutor with the European Parliament and the European Commission, and working closely with other health stakeholders. In September 2008, EPF has launched European Patients’ Manifesto “150 million reasons to act”. It calls upon the European Parliament, the European Commission, current and prospective Members of the European Parliament (MEP), national Members of the Parliament, and the Member States of the European Union as well as national and local representatives to commit to the legitimate rights, claims and wishes of patients and incorporate them in their national and European health campaigns and policies. Three fundamental areas to improve the quality of healthcare delivered across the EU, from a patients’ perspective, are highlighted in the Manifesto: o Equal and timely access to safe, effective diagnosis, treatments and support; o Better information and resources for patients to be partners in determining their care; o A patients’ voice to be heard in Brussels and throughout the European Union. As a member of the European Patients Forum the European Heart and Lung Transplant Federation fully supports this manifesto You can find the Manifesto in the section “Downloads” of this website and on the EPF website at
